The sixth round of review for the ASEAN-India Trade in Goods Agreement (AITIGA) will be held in November in Delhi, the commerce ministry said on August 14.

“We will be looking to close the review on some chapters for the meeting that is happening in India,” the ministry noted.

The government plans to conclude the review of AITIGA by 2025.

The joint committee, which met for the fifth time in August in Jakarta, Indonesia, reviewed the progress of all eight subcommittees and recommended that they increase the frequency of meetings to expedite the review process.

Besides AITIGA, the government is also moving fast to conclude its trade agreements with the European Union and Australia.

In the case of Australia, nine formal rounds and inter-ministerial meetings have been held, and the 10nth round of negotiations is likely to start from next week.

With the EU, the ninth round of negotiation is expected to be held in New Delhi in September, where issues related to trade issues surrounding goods, services, investment and government procurement are expected to be discussed.

The ministry is also in talks to resolve issues surrounding the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism implemented by the EU, which will hurt Indian exports.
