PARIS — French President Emmanuel Macron on Thursday will host a lunch for some of the world's most influential executives to reassure them that France is still a top investment destination.

At the Elysée, Macron will dine with some 40 top executives including Tesla's Elon Musk, Coca-Cola's James Quincey, Alibaba's Joe Tsai, Airbnb's Brian Chesky, TikTok's Shou Zi Chew, ArcelorMittal's Aditya and Lakshmi Mittal, Youtube's Neal Mohan, Eli Lilly's David Ricks, Samsung's Jay Y. Lee and LVMH's Bernard Arnault. Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire also will attend.

"Business leaders are obviously paying close attention to the political situation in France," said an Elysée official, adding that Macron will "reassure them" that French policies to attract foreign investors will not change.

After July's snap election, uncertainty still looms over who will govern France. During his electoral campaign, Macron repeatedly warned that a victory of his far-right or the far-left opponents would put into question some of the pro-market reforms he implemented in the past seven years, and make France a less attractive country for foreign investors.

With the Olympic Games officially kicking off on Friday with an unprecedented opening ceremony on the Seine, around a hundred of heads of state and government as well as top executives from the world's business elite will be mingling in Paris.

Despite a disastrously negative trade balance for goods, under Macron France proved particularly strong in attracting foreign money, thanks in part to generous subsidies.

While many of the executives attending the lunch already invested in France, Musk's Tesla has no factories in France, despite Macron's efforts to convince him.
